Shinmei is using his father's laptop, and discovers the letter which was sent to the Kirishikis. It was an invitation for them to come visit the old man in his room. Kaori Tanaka appears at the window. She's a mess; covered in dirt, and looking like she hasn't been sleeping well. She begs Shinmei for a posthumous Buddhist name. She is preparing her own grave, and needs a name for the marker. She is alone now that her parents have died and her brother Akira has gone missing. She expects Megumi to come for her next.
Tatsumi goes to the Koide household. He recognized Natsuno's scent at the house that Iwao Maeda had moved into. Yuuki greets him by stabbing him in the gut. That accomplishes nothing, so Yuuki gives permission for Tatsumi to come in. Tatsumi has a talk with Natsuno, jinrou to jinrou. Tatsumi wants to know what happened to Maeda, and where Akira went, not to mention who among the shiki has been helping him. Natsuno won't talk, and Sunako told Tatsumi not to kill him, so he leaves without learning anything.
Tae Yano revives as shiki in one of the huts in the woods, but no one is there to greet her. She scurries off taking a trail down the mountain. Yasuyuki and Takatoshi have the task of welcoming the new shiki, but were busy burying Junko Yasumori. They left the door of the hut unlocked, letting Tae escape. She surprises Kanami when she arrives home.
