A man who displays a strong will and prominent emotions, Takeo is seen angry and determined in most of his appearances in the anime and manga. He becomes enraged when Toshio Ozaki requests his permission to perform an autopsy on Megumi after her death, yelling and striking the wall behind him with his fist, firmly refusing this. However, there is a possibility his behavior may have simply been a mechanism of his grief, as he promptly apologizes for snapping to Toshio before breaking down emotionally. However, during the war between the humans and shiki, he carries himself with a furious determination, and exterminates the shiki with just as much vigor as the most dedicated villagers, namely Tomio Ookawa and Toshio Ozaki.

Despite this, he is shown to be a dutiful and respected villager with a sense of honor, as he genuinely apologizes twice for his anger to Toshio, and is shown readily assisting with the Kagura festival at the shrine. He also demonstrates the qualities of a leader, guiding and advising the other villagers during the war and even being appointed the leader of a division of villagers.

Plot

On August 12th, Dr. Toshio Ozaki goes to Megumi Shimizu's house where her parents thank him for coming all the way there. He finds that there isn't anything wrong with her physically. She won't eat anything. She doesn't have a fever, just some insect bites. She is found to be anemic. He says that he is going to draw some blood. Her parents are both relieved. Megumi says that she's very sleepy. She can only remember being welcomed by Tatsumi and Seishirou Kirishiki.

After Megumi is pronounced dead by Toshio, he requests Takeo's permission to perform an autopsy on Megumi's corpse in order to discern what caused her death. Takeo became enraged, declaring that the doctor was denied permission before demanding that he leaves Megumi in peace.

Takeo later returns right before the war between the Shiki and humans breaks out, where he apologizes to Toshio for snapping at him when Megumi died, for which Toshio pardons him. He is asked by the doctor to assist him in escorting Chizuru Kirishiki to the shrine to 'rest after falling ill', and upon grabbing onto her arm as directed, he notes that her skin is cold and that she doesn't have a pulse. Toshio then reveals to him that Chizuru and her kind are the ones responsible for the death of Megumi, after which Takeo remembers smelling an 'adult perfume' in Megumi's room prior to her death, the scent of which matched the perfume worn by Chizuru.

Takeo immediately goes into a rage, insisting that the villagers check her pulse and body temperature to see for themselves that the "Okiagari" (the villagers' earlier term for shiki) are real, and that she is one of them. He then joins the other villagers in throwing rocks in her while she runs away, with Takeo ordering everyone to not let her get away.

When Toshio and Tomio Ookawa restrain Chizuru in front of the entire village, Takeo was invited by Toshio to vengefully use his hammer to drive a stake (held in place by Toshio) through Chizuru's chest, permanently killing her. When Toshio rallied up the villagers to eradicate the shiki from the village, Takeo was among the first few villagers to side with the young doctor, and is shown throughout the war staking many shiki. In the manga, he is assigned the task of commanding an entire division of the village's forces.

Takeo, alongside Tomio and several other villagers, confronted Seishin Muroi's mother over suspicions that she was hiding Seishin, whom they considered a traitor to the village for siding with the Kirishiki family. After a brief exchange, Takeo and a few of the other villagers murder her off screen, before proceeding to search the entire shrine for Seishin or other shiki.

Takeo and Tomio later pursue Sunako Kirishiki to the burning church, and Tomio orders Takeo to return to the village to tell Toshio to begin cutting down trees to keep the fire from reaching the village. Takeo agrees, and he is seen at the end of the series leaving the village in one of its trucks, alongside his wife. His life and everything about it is unknown after this.
