"It's not a matter of a creature's individual worth. It's a matter of a creature's personal feelings. "
―Tatsumi to Seishin.

Upon the audience's first encounter he seems to be a sweet, absent-minded, human male. However, Tatsumi is a nihilist that fulfills the role of a major antagonist working as the top-ranked servant of the Kirishiki family and Sunako's right hand man. He takes care of almost everything ranging from the move to their new mansion to digging up coffins containing new born Shiki. He hides a very cruel and sadistic personality to the public but he is not without humanity as he has great respect and admiration for Sunako despite him being more powerful than her and the rest of the Shiki. He didn’t show any signs of fear when he knew he was going to die. He strongly dislikes and absolutely doesn't trust or want to keep Natsuno alive despite what Sunako ordered and regretted listening to Sunako's orders about not killing Natsuno (even if it was too late to do so) by the end of the anime.

Tatsumi appears to be a 23 year old young man. He proves to be very powerful and athletic visible by his taller stature and lean muscle. He has short, messy (almost "furry") sky blue hair with equally messy but slightly darker eyebrows. When not hunting, Tatsumi's eyes are a striking shade of Yellow. Tatsumi is first seen dressed in typical clothing. As the series progresses, he displays a personal style consisting of several different jumpsuits (usually red). At the beginning he is seen as being somewhat meek but regardless of his intentions, Tatsumi is often seen grinning.

The First Jinrou

Tatsumi is the first Jinrou introduced in the series. He is a rare, special type of vampire who can move around in broad daylight and is able to consume normal food. Jinrou are capable of getting by without drinking blood, but their latent abilities such as heightened senses and inhuman strength won't manifest until they do. Because of this, Tatsumi keeps an eye out during the day when the rest of the Shiki cannot. His main task is to take care of newborn Shiki and teach them the ways of a vampire. He also kidnaps people from the city to have newborns feed on. Tatsumi is in charge of managing who is to be killed and when. When Toshio Ozaki became aware of the existence of Shiki, Tatsumi organized an invasion of the Ozaki clinic and murdered Setsuko Yasumori as a threat. He then plotted the assassination of Natsuno Yuuki when he, too became aware of the Shiki. Tatsumi is also responsible for entering Toshio's home and killing his wife, Kyoko. Toshio catches Tatsumi in the act and can only look on helplessly as Tatsumi taunts him. After the Kirishiki funeral home opens, Tatsumi is relieved of his grave-digging duties and can focus more on the village.

When Natsuno comes back to life as a Jinrou, Tatsumi explains that he only knows of four Jinrou including themselves. He then expresses that despite Sunako wanting Natsuno to join the Shiki, Tatsumi thinks it's a better idea to just kill him.

On August 8th, he wakes Tae Yano and her daughter by honking and shining the lights in their house with a moving truck. After Kanami Yano tells him to knock it off, he apologizes and says that he's lost and looking for Sotoba. She tells him that he's already there. Realizing his mistake, he apologizes profusely and introduces himself as Kirishiki and says that he's moving into the mansion.

On August 11, some villagers come to Kanemasa's to ask them if they know anything about Megumi's disappearance. Using a PA system, Takami says that they're looking for a high school student and asks if he could ask them some questions. Tatsumi asks them to wait a moment and then opens the door. He says that nobody in the house has seen her but offers to help search for her, because the master of the house said that everyone should help one another. He says that his name is Tatsumi and he's a servant and asks how he can help.

After hearing other villagers gossiping that they might have something to do with it, Mutou tells Tatsumi not to pay them any mind.

September 27

As Kaori and Akira Tanaka watch over Kanemasa, Tatsumi spies on them.

November 3rd

Tatsumi goes to Natsuno Koide's house. His father stabs him with a knife as he rings the doorbell. His father is overjoyed to have killed one of the undead, but the wound doesn't hurt him and Tatsumi asks to come in. Yuuki is happy to oblige.

When Natsuno asks what he wants, he comments on his father and asks if he knows he's a werewolf. He already does and realizes that someone has been leaking information. He explains Jinrou more and asks what happened to Akira Tanaka and Iwao Maeda. Natsuno feigns ignorance, making Tatsumi furious.

Tatsumi lifts Natsuno up by the neck. Like he suspected, Natsuno hadn't been drinking blood so he hadn't accessed the true powers of a werewolf. He says that he could kill him right them, but says that Sunako Kirishiki wants him as a comrade. He throws him back into his chair and tells him to come to their side. He sais that he cant decide right then anyway. Tatsumi says that he'll return the next morning.

November 4th

Tatsumi returns to find Natsuno Koide not there. He accepts his answer to reject joining the Sunako Kirishiki's fastly gaining momentum and expanding vampire family.

The End

Tatsumi likes the idea of a war between the humans and the Shiki, due to his love of chaos/nihilism and his very secret sadistic nature that was officially revealed by the end of the series.

He also encourages Seishirou to avenge Chizuru's death. When the war breaks out, villagers surround the Kirishiki Mansion where Sunako and Seishin Muroi are hiding. He leaves Sunako's safety up to the newly risen Seishin and decides to lure the villagers away so they could escape.

He takes a car and drives away from the mansion, the villagers chasing after him. The villagers shoot at the car, causing him to wreck. When he begins to run away, one of the villagers shoot him in the back, causing him to fall over. As he stands up, he gets hit by a van and crashes into the windshield. He ends up stealing the van but the villagers shoot at him again and he wrecks. He falls through the windshield and onto the hood of the car. When he stands up, he gets shot by villagers and falls into water. He later finds Natsuno and they have a final fight. Natsuno tackles Tatsumi and they both end up falling into a deep hole where the villagers disposed of the dead Shiki. In the anime, Natsuno takes out a bomb and lights it. When he sees the bomb, Tatsumi realizes that it was Natsuno's intention to fight next to the hole so they could both fall in. A few moments later, the bomb explodes, killing them both.

The End

In the manga, Tatsumi is impaled through a stalactite when he falls into the pit, making blood come rushing down his mouth. While dying, he tells Natsuno how much he admires Sunako and that he always knew that Sunako's plan wouldn't work. He thought it was interesting so he just went along with it. He also believes that Jinrou really are the perfect vampires and that the regular Shiki are just failures. Tatsumi also reveals that he wanted to see the world end with his own two eyes and that he wanted to be the last man standing. He also reveals that in his life as a human, he wanted to kill himself. But thanks to Sunako he was able to live this long. He has a lot of fun being by Sunako's side.

Sunako Kirishiki

He was the most loyal servant of Sunako and Chizuru and proved that by sacrificing himself partly for her well-being but doesnt succeed to die but he later fights and implied to be dead along with Natsuno himself which engaged him when he successfully had avoided being killed by angry villagers trying to kill him and was going to probably escape with Sunako and Seishin had he not died off beforehand.

Toshio Ozaki

He was mainly a rival to Toshio Ozaki himself for the most of the course in all the media of series but he wasnt allowed to kill him due to Sunako's admitted mistake of a order and that Ozaki and Muroi were being close friends.

Natsuno Yuuki

Explained above but potential future editors are definitely welcome to further update or copy paste that info to here.

Seishin Muroi

He was very friendly, charming and welcoming to his presence in Kanemasa and him in general, specially after when they talked and he even analyzed and called out him to be a very "weird" person once he partly joined Sunako's very own clan/family and offered his blood to him a few times but they were indirectly rivals when (as one example) Seishin tried to help Toshio and when he was still a Junior Monk.

  • First Jinrou to be introduced in the series.
  • His hair literally resembles a werewolf and is just like a second set of animalistic ears compared to his real and very humanizing and deceiving ears.
  • His fate is mostly unknown (along with Yoshie's mysterious fate in the very original story too) in the novels as Natsuno didnt managed to rise up in novels but Natsuno just gives him the very ultimate closure of his character arc by killing him off for real in their last fight from the very story of anime and manga prologue.
