  • Been years since I watched this, wondering if you recall any specifics about the turning process in this universe.

Was it simply being bitten / drained-to-death by a vamp or did you need to drink their blood? I only seem to remember victims being bitten/buried/rising but maybe there was some small mention of counter-feeding.

    • I don’t think they had to drink the vampires blood. Their blood had to be drained by the Shiki and, depending on their genetics, they would rise and become a Shiki or just stay dead.

    • Ah that's right, so it wasn't a 100% guarantee if you were 100% drained, that kind of thing could cause overpopulation unless vampires intentionally stopped short of complete drainage.

Do you recall if they ever commented on what % of humans had the proper genes to be turned? Seemed like it worked for a significant part of the town, can't recall if there were any patterns to it.

    • No, I can't remember any percentage or anything. But I'm pretty sure they said that if both parents died without rising, there's no chance their child could. Nao could transform, her husband couldn't and her child couldn't either.

Seishirou Kirishiki's parents both died, so they wouldn't drain him because he would die.

    • Probably because they wanted to keep him around for other uses, either feeding or servitude I guess.

If fail*fail=fail it makes me wonder if success*success=success... do you know if there is a case where 2 parents were turned but a child wasn't, to disprove that?

    • No, I don't think so.
